"Old Chevy in Monument Valley"
By Rob Duncan

My girlfriend and I took a Southwest road trip last October. One of our stops was in Monument Valley, AZ. I spotted this old car by total accident when looking through my 300mm lens. It was at least a half mile out in the desert, so I trekked out to where it was and took a few photos.

"I just don't have any words for this. What a composition, my jaws just dropped. The outstanding clarity of the picture with the old rusted parts broken and falling apart gives the feel of the gradual degradation of the car. The composition is also superb with the car perfectly in FOCUS and deep Depth of Field makes gives this picture an amazing sense of view and depth. SUPER WORK !! I am impressed"

"Excellent DOF decision!! B/W brings out the heart wrenching desolation of the location....keep it up"

"Thank you for the complements. Taking the photos of this car out there in the middle of nowhere is one of the highlights of my photographic life. Because of how many people are out there photographing everything, it has become very difficult to come up with something that hasn't been done a million times. Needless to say I am proud of this shot, and thanks again..... Rob "

"Very well thought-out composition and choice of aperture! Bravo! And I love it monochrome! The only thing I think would make it better is for the shadow of the car on the right to be fully visible instead of cut off. (Not a complaint, just a personal preference) BTW, the hat is a cool touch. Was it there originally, or did you add it as a prop? Cheers!"

"Thank you all. Makes me feel that my efforts were well worth it. If any of you would like to see the color version, I will be adding it to my Aperture Academy profile hopefully this evening. Thanks again, Rob"
