"Drop of Doom"
By Simon Barker

Two days before, I had been here, to Palouse Falls, as part of the [Aperture Academy] Palouse workshop. It is a beautiful spot, so I decided to return and practice some newly learnt skills with a 10 stop ND filter. Moments after this shot my camera, tripod, filters, etc., went over the edge of the 400 ft. cliffs....The Drop of Doom! Luckily, the CF card survived and this shot makes me glad that I retrieved it!!

"Dude I am sorry about your equipment, that really sucks. But on the bright side, nice shot! Could you tell me about the 10 stop ND filter? I would be interested in trying one out. "

"It is a gloriously beautiful image! Tragic about your camera though...I pray that you're insured. The image is truly fabulous. The colour, saturation and exposure is all right on. The smoothness of the splash at the bottom of the falls is sublime. congratulations for POTD!"

"Wow, it's very humbling to read the comments. Thanks to you all for taking the time. I wish there was more room to explain what happened that afternoon. It took 6 hrs to retrieve and in that time I jumped over some rocks onto a rattlesnake(honest); wrecked my knees, hands and feet. $14,000 later, still worth it. Someone was watching over me, as I could have ended up with the camera! Thanks again."

"This shot is a 10. Did you use the ND filter on it? Looks like it. Beautiful highlights and contrasts. Memorable picture for a host of reasons. Saw a Hasselblad take a dive like that years ago on a location shot. Luckily, it wasn't mine."
